Application Cancellation

Cancel Your ESTA Application Request

If your travel circumstances have shifted and the U.S. is no longer on your itinerary, you may request withdrawal of your pending authorization. Review everything below before proceeding — cancellation is irreversible.

Cancellation Cannot Be Reversed

Once your ESTA application is cancelled, it is permanently removed from the active system. If you later decide to visit the United States, you will need to complete an entirely new application from the beginning, including payment of applicable fees.

Think Twice Before Cancelling

Many travelers request cancellation when a simple modification would serve them better. If your travel dates have shifted, your accommodation has changed, or your contact details need updating, these revisions can be made on your existing authorization without any cancellation.

An approved ESTA provides two full years of travel flexibility. Even if your immediate plans have fallen through, you may want to keep the authorization active for spontaneous trips, business opportunities, or rescheduled vacations. The cost and effort of reapplying later often outweigh the minimal benefit of cancelling now.

We strongly encourage reviewing the modification option before proceeding with cancellation. Our support team can evaluate your specific situation and advise whether an update or a full withdrawal is the more appropriate course of action.

Consider Modifying Instead

If your travel plans have changed but you might still visit the U.S. within the next two years, updating your existing ESTA is almost always the better choice.

Refund Eligibility by Stage

Your eligibility for a refund depends entirely on how far your application has progressed at the time you request cancellation:

  • Pre-review stage: Full refund of all service fees. Your application has not yet been examined by our specialists.
  • During review: A partial refund may be available depending on the extent of work already completed on your file.
  • After submission: Government processing fees are non-recoverable once the application has been forwarded to the authorization system.
  • Approved authorizations: No refund is available for successfully processed and approved ESTAs.

Complete refund terms are detailed in our Refund Policy.

What Follows Cancellation

  • A written cancellation confirmation is dispatched to your registered email address within minutes
  • Eligible refunds are initiated within 2 business days and appear on your statement within 5-10 business days
  • Your personal data is retained in accordance with our privacy policy and applicable data protection regulations
  • You remain free to submit a new ESTA application at any point in the future without restriction
  • No penalty or negative record is associated with a voluntary cancellation

The Cancellation Process Explained

If you have determined that cancellation is the right path, here is what to expect.

1

Verify Your Identity

Contact our support team or log into your dashboard and provide your application reference number and registered email to authenticate your request.

2

Confirm Your Decision

After identity verification, you will be asked to explicitly confirm the cancellation. This step exists to prevent accidental withdrawals.

3

Receive Confirmation

A formal cancellation notice is sent to your email. If eligible, your refund is processed automatically — no further action required.

Cancellation Questions Answered

Can I cancel an approved ESTA?

Technically, an approved ESTA does not require cancellation — it simply expires after two years or when your passport expires. If you have a specific reason for wanting it deactivated, contact our support team to discuss your options.

Will cancelling affect future applications?

No. A voluntary cancellation creates no negative record and has no impact on your ability to apply for a new ESTA or any other U.S. travel authorization in the future.

How long does the refund take to appear?

Once approved, refunds are processed within 2 business days. Depending on your financial institution, the credit may take an additional 5-10 business days to appear on your statement.

Can someone else cancel my application?

For security purposes, only the registered applicant can initiate a cancellation. If the application was submitted by a third party on your behalf, they must provide valid authentication credentials.

What if I change my mind after cancelling?

Unfortunately, cancellation is permanent and cannot be reversed. You would need to start a completely new application, including providing all required information and paying applicable fees.

Do I need to cancel if I just want to delay my trip?

Absolutely not. Your ESTA remains valid for two years regardless of when you actually travel. There is no requirement to cancel simply because your departure date has moved.
